Trading Sector Stands Lone Winner Amid Market-Wide Decline; Hydro Dominates NPR 1.82B Turnover

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) ended in the red, breaking its recent upward run as profit-booking weighed on the market. The benchmark NEPSE Index closed at 2,613.33 points, down 16.47 points (about 0.63%) from the previous session's close of 2,629.80.

Despite the decline, trading activity remained heavy. Total turnover exceeded Rs. 5.38 arba, with 13,178,128 shares changing hands during the session. Turnover at this level shows that investors stayed active even as prices eased, which points to profit-taking after recent gains rather than a drop in market interest.

An ADR below 1 means more stocks fell than rose. At 0.22, roughly four stocks declined for every one that advanced, so the selling was broad and not limited to a few heavyweight scripts.

NEPSE Technical Outlook

Following recent consolidation around the 2,610–2,680 range, the NEPSE Index closed at 2,613.33 (-16.48 points or -0.63%). Price action reflects profit-taking following test failures near multi-month overhead resistance.

Technical Indicators & Price Structure

Technical Dimension Current Reading Technical Interpretation
Index Close 2,613.33 Consolidation within a high-volume range (2,605–2,680).
Immediate Support 2,580 – 2,600 Key demand zone backed by the recent swing low (2,585).
Major Support 2,500 – 2,520 Crucial trend line support aligned near the 20-session floor.
Immediate Resistance 2,650 – 2,680 Supply zone aligned with the late-September high (2,679.90).
Major Resistance 2,720 – 2,750 Psychological hurdle required for a structural bull continuation.
RSI (14) 48 – 52 (Neutral) Balanced momentum; lack of extreme overbought or oversold signals.
MACD Flat / Neutral Histogram Moving averages converging, signaling short-term range-bound choppy price action.

Key Trading Scenarios

1. Bullish Breakout Scenario (Upside Trigger)

  • Trigger: A decisive daily close above 2,680 on elevated market turnover (> NPR 7.0 Billion).

  • Target: Initial push toward 2,720, followed by retesting 2,780–2,800.

  • Preferred Sectors: Commercial Banks, Microfinance, and High-Beta Hydro Stocks with sound volume confirmation.

2. Bearish Breakdown Scenario (Downside Risk)

  • Trigger: A breakdown below 2,580 with persistent weakness in large-cap banking and hydro sectors.

  • Target: Re-testing the primary support level around 2,500–2,520.

  • Risk Management: Traders should maintain tight stop-loss orders on high-volatility holdings (e.g., small-cap hydro or finance scripts).

Summary Trading Strategy

  • Swing Traders: Accumulate selectively on dips near the 2,580–2,600 support zone with strict stop-losses below 2,570. Avoid buying near the 2,660–2,680 resistance zone until a full candle confirmation above 2,680 occurs.

  • Position Investors: Focus on fundamentally strong scripts (high PLF hydro, capitalized commercial banks) showing consolidation patterns rather than chasing low-cap momentum stocks.
